Guy Whittingham was delighted with Pompey after making it two Fratton Park wins on the trot.
A goal in each half, from Jed Wallace and Patrick Agyemang, was enough to down play-off hunting Coventry City 2-0.
Simon Eastwood had to be at his best, including a penalty save, as the relegation-threatened Blues made it just two defeats from their past nine matches.
And after climbing off the foot of the League One table, Whittingham was full of praise for his men.
The caretaker manager said: ‘There was a lot of good performances out there. The players have really got familiar with each other now.
‘You can feel around the place that things have changed and the players built on that good point at Doncaster last weekend to get a win here.
‘There’s only six games left but we’re going to keep giving our all, just like today.’
