CHILDREN at a newly refurbished Chichester nursery met the city mayor and two medical detection dogs at the official opening of the facilities.

Polo and Casper visited The Co-operative Childcare Nursery (formerly Buffer Bear) with their handlers Clair Faulkner and Sue Surbey who talked to the children about the work of medical detection dogs.

Councillor Tony French officially opened the nursery at St Richard’s NHS Trust on Spitalfield Lane on April 3 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony before being given a tour of the facilities.

Nursery manager Tina Collis said: “We had a lovely day and the children really enjoyed meeting Polo and Casper. It was lovely to watch them look after the dogs, they were so caring and gentle with them.”

The school decided to sponsor a medical alert dog to strengthen their links with the local community.
