A CHARITY walk with a difference will be taking place in Goodwood later this year.

The Just Walk, which is taking place at Goodwood Racecourse on May 12, enables participants to take part and raise funds for a charity of their choice over four different distances.

Walkers can choose from 10km, 20km, 40km or 60km walks. At the 2011 event 900 walkers raised more than £350,000 for more than 100 different charities.

All four distances start at the racecourse and wind their way through the South Downs, with the 40km and 60km walks starting at 8am, and the 10km and 20km walks setting off a couple of hours later.

Those undertaking the shorter walks return in early afternoon with the final walkers on the 60km walks not returning until around midnight.

Adult registration for the walk costs from £25 for the 10km walk to £70 for the 60km walk including hot drinks, food for those on longer walks and a t-shirt for all those who complete the walk.

Organisers also lay on a warm-up before the walks start, full medical and safety back-up and refreshment stations en route, a rousing welcome home for all walkers and training and fundraising advice in advance.

Children can take part in the 10km and 20km walks (registration fees payable) but the longer walks are designated for adults only.

Registration is quick and easy online via www.acrossthedivide.com/just-walk with walkers choosing the length of walk they want to undertake. Once registered they are free to start raising sponsorship for the charity of their choice.

Event organiser Julie Thomas said: “The Just Walk event is a great way for both individuals and charities to raise money and each year we see new charities represented.

“Many smaller charities in particular don’t have the ability to organise fundraising events on this scale so we’re delighted to be able to offer them the opportunity to raise funds.”
