POLICE have been tackling the ongoing issues of anti-social behaviour and nuisance scooter riders in Selsey.
Chichester police officers joined forces with Sussex Police West Road Policing Unit on January 24 for Operation Torque.
Officers stopped and tested a number of scrambler bikes and mopeds.
Using a dynostart machine, police were able to take a reading of the top speed these bikes were capable travelling.
The reasons for these tests were to see if they had been de-restricted or not. The top speed of a moped is 30mph.
The drivers stopped were given stern words of advice about the way they choose to travel.
They were then invited to a road safety course to learn more about the safety requirements of riding on the road, correct clothing and the law around mopeds and tampering with them to increase speeds.
PCSO Sam Treagust said there would be more of these operations in the near future.
All the drivers stopped have agreed to attend the course and will be sent further information closer to the time.
This course is available for anyone to attend if they feel they would benefit from it.
