THE FAMILY of a man who died on the A27 last Friday have paid tribute to ‘such a good person’.

Sigitas Jagminas died on Friday, January 20, when he was hit by a car at around 5.30pm when he was crossing the road near to the Stockbridge roundabout.

His niece and sister released a statement, telling of their shock at his death.

It read: “My daughter and I were shocked when police said that my brother had died on the A27, I really did not expect it.

“He was such a good person who was in love with his girlfriend.

“Thank God that the woman who was driving is not injured and we want to say thanks to all police officers who helped us.

“Brother, we will miss you so much... RIP.”

Mr Jagminas, 61, who was of no fixed address, is the third pedestrian to die on the A27 since the beginning of December.

Homeless men Sigitas Juozapaitis and Kenneth Sherwood died last month within three days of each other between the same roundabout and Whyke Road.

Since the collision last Friday police have been working closely with partners to educate local residents and the homeless community about the dangers of crossing the busy A27.

Longer-term measures are also being considered in a bid to prevent any further tragedies of this nature.

Sussex Police has been working closely with Stonepillow, a charity which works with homeless and vulnerable people, to educate this community about pedestrian crossing points on the A27 atChichester. High visibility clothing is also being provided for use during hours of darkness.

Sergeant Mel Doyle of Sussex Police Road Policing Unit said: “These three deaths are extremely tragic and have been distressing for the homeless community in which they lived.

“Sussex Police is working very closely with partner agencies to provide education and look at any solutions available to prevent any further deaths.”
