With a week free from matches and competitions, Cowdray Park seniors have been endeavouring to catch up on the backlog of winter knockout matches in the singles and foursomes for the Sandell Trophy and Barham Salver respectively.
Already through to the quarter-finals of the Sandell Trophy is David Heard, due to face the winner of Frank Cheevers and John Doran, while Mike Holden will play Roger Poat for the other semi-final place.
In the other half of the draw, Brian Brockhurst, after his stunning win over Paul Owen, will face the winner of Graham Thompson or Brian Carpenter.
In the battle for the Barham Salver, Dave Hirons and Colin Tebbutt are through to the semi-finals where they will face the winner from David Laver/Harvey Terry or Frank Cheevers/Derek Smith.
And in the other half of the draw, the winner out of David Heard and Ted Ireland will face Paul Owen or Cliff Davis for the right to face the winners from Roger Poat/Mike King or Bill Hummerston/Dave Lucking, who overcame the formidable challenge of David Imlach and Alistair Proctor.
Now that brighter weather has arrived it is hoped to clear the backlog following the worst winter in memory.
* As the weather was bitterly cold for the ladies’ section’s Easter prize day, two separate competitions were played over just nine holes starting from either the first or tenth hole.
Results: Off 1st tee - 1 Wendy Street & Jenny Clegg 23pts, 2 Sue Melville & Caroline Haynes 22; Off 10th tee - 1 Judy Stillwell & Cath Yates 23; Frances Marjoram & Barbara Smith 22.
