A NEWLY-refurbished Roman Garden Museum has been unveiled at Fishbourne Roman Palace.

The garden was officially unveiled last week, with friends of the palace, Sussex Archaeological Society Trustees and representatives gathering to see the red ribbon cut by chairman of trustees Richard Ackhurst.

Visitors have the chance to find out more about the unique garden through a series of informative panels and hands-on interactive activities.

The garden was created with funding from the Friends of Fishbourne Roman Palace and a donation made through the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme. After the opening, visitors enjoyed the new Garden Museum display and gardens.

Katrina Burton, head of learning at Fishbourne Roman Palace, said: “We are particularly grateful to the friends and to Waitrose for giving us the opportunity to make so much more of the Garden Museum.

“The garden at Fishbourne is thought to be the first garden in Britain, so it’s fantastic that we are able to tell that story in an interesting way
that will be
enjoyed by all our visitors.”
