A HEADTEACHER at a school for children with complex learning disabilities is ‘delighted’ with the progress of pupils, after a recent Ofsted report reported it was a ‘good’ school.

Inspectors found Fordwater School, in Summersdale, Chichester, was good in all areas, but pupils’ behaviour and safety was ‘outstanding’.

Head teacher Sue Meekings said: “I am delighted that the Ofsted report recognises that pupils at Fordwater make excellent progress in their personal development, their behaviour and attitudes are outstanding and that they grow into caring, friendly and good-natured young people.

“I believe a real strength of Fordwater school is the excellent relationships between staff and pupils, the fantastic team work and the staff’s commitment to the pupils, all recognised in the report.

“Fordwater is a happy and supportive learning environment enjoyed by all and it’s great to see Ofsted appreciating this.”

The report found teaching was ‘typically’ good, and pupils’ attitudes were ‘outstanding’.

The governing body was commended as ‘highly effective’, and school management was praised.

Inspectors visited every class and found lesson planning needed more attention. Parents’ views were also considered.
