GENEROUS shoppers in Chichester have raised thousands of pounds for a leading cancer charity.
Travellers on the city’s free park and ride system over Christmas dug deep to support Macmillan and donated £2,100.
Staff at Emsworth and District Buses, which ran the scheme on behalf of the county council, handed a cheque to Mandy Kendall, Macmillan’s fundraising manager.
Caren Austin-Lea, the bus firm’s managing director, said: “Thank you to all the generous passengers who used the service and donated to Macmillian. Cancer affects us all; we all know someone who has cancer and Macmillan is a fantastic charity operating in our local community so we are pleased we can help support them in this way.”
Mandy Kendall said: “It never ceases to amaze me how generous the people of Sussex are, but without the support of the public and local corporations like the bus company, we really wouldn’t be able to help people living with cancer to have more good days.”
