It’s All About The Horse Raceday - and time for the £50,000 totepool National Spirit Hurdle - at Fontwell Park on Sunday afternoon.
The track has lost two meetings already this year because of waterlogging but the ground is looking in good condition for a day on which attractions range from racing to horse-themed demonstrations as well as an appearance from Olympic silver medallist Tina Cook, who will be talking people through her medal routine.
The National Spirit Hurdle is the main race and the prize pool is up by £20,000 to £50,000 this year.
Also on the card is the Josh Gifford Memorial Cup, which will be held for the first time in memory of the local champion jockey and Grand National-winning trainer, who had strong links with the course before his death last year.
The cup being used was won by Josh’s wife at Fontwell in the 1970s.
The Gifford family will be attending on Sunday to present the cup to the winning connections.
There’s free admission to annual members of all ARC-run tracks. Children also go free.
Our tips: 2.10 Uncle Jimmy, 2.40 Shoegazer, 3.15 Time To Think, 3.45 (National Spirit Hurdle) Prospect Wells, 4.20 Keel Road, 4.50 The Bishops Baby, 5.20 Sergeant Mattie.
We’ll have a racing report on this website on Sunday evening.
