Guy bemoans more lapses in Pompey defence

Guy Whittingham was left to curse another costly defensive error as Pompey equalled an unwanted club record.

A 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth today was inflicted by second-half goals from Lewis Grabban and Marc Pugh.

Yet the scoreline was goalless until Grabban netted in the 63rd minute when he found himself alone in front of the visitors’ goal to take several touches before netting.

It means Pompey have now levelled post-war records of 19 matches without a win and nine successive defeats.

And Whittingham was disappointed at the defending again.

He said: ‘The lads applied themselves and we kept things tight for the majority of the match.

‘Up until the first goal I was quite pleased with the defence and how they applied themselves - then they had a lapse.

‘That cost us. It was difficult coming back after that.

‘There were long periods with no ball but I was pleased with the application, energy and commitment.

‘We’ve just got to keep going.’
