DOUBTS have been raised about the ability to deliver a new rubbish facility.
The West Sussex Waste Local Plan identifies the fuel depot site, in Bognor Road, as a built waste facility.
However, Cllr Janet Duncton, speaking at a meeting of Chichester District Council last week, said there was still a ‘question mark’ over the site.
Councillors first raised concerns when the draft plan was consulted on last summer. Members felt a lack of detail made it ‘difficult to comment with confidence’ and worried about the impact of traffic at the A27/A259 junction.
In a report presented to cabinet, officer Tracey Flitcroft said: “Concerns have also been raised about the deliverability of the fuel depot site given discussion with the landowner who expressed an interest in developing the site for employment use.”
The plan has been produced by West Sussex County Council and the South Downs National Park Authority.
Members agreed to make a formal representation on the plan asking county to ‘demonstrate in more details that the new landowners are willing for the site to be developed as a waste facility’.
They also suggested county come up with a reserve site in case the fuel depot land could not be used.
