A Chichester charity has said it is overjoyed after receiving a cash donation from Sussex Police.

PCSO Rosemary Bainbridge nominated the Sussex Snowdrop Trust to benefit from the The Police Property Act Fund, which is made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

The officer is familiar with the charity’s work because she knows the parents of teenager Charlotte Spawton, who died from a brain tumour almost two years to the day the donation was made. The Sussex Snowdrop Trust gave help to her family.

Chairman of the trust Diana Levantine said: “PCSO Bainbridge knew what Snowdrop did for Charlotte’s family. Charlotte was a lovely teenager. I believe the police have to have a connection with a charity before they can put forward a donation benefactor.

“This is the first connection we have had with the police, which is lovely. Every penny counts in this climate.”

The donation was made at Chichester Police Station.

PCSO Bainbridge works in the Witterings, Bracklesham, Birdham and Itchenor areas. She has worked there for seven years.
