THE man behind the purchase of Fratton Park will be buying land surrounding Pompey’s stadium at the same time.

The land belongs to former Pompey owner Sacha Gaydamak, who has kept hold of it since he sold the club to Sulaiman Al Fahim in 2008.

But the Pompey Supporters’ Trust revealed at a press conference this afternoon that developer Stuart Robinson will be buying that land as well as Fratton Park itself.

If successful, it will be the first time since 2008 that the people who control the football club also control its car park and office space.

‘Those negotiations are happening now,’ said Ian McInnes, who will become club chairman should the PST bid to own Pompey be successful.

He also said the fight in court to buy Fratton Park from Portpin, which is the stadium’s mortgage holder, would be ‘tough’.

But he added: ‘I’m confident we’ll prevail.’

PST chairman Ashley Brown urged fans to fulfil their pledges to become shareholders and be ‘part of football history’.
