Bourne Community College has been praised for being a good school with excellent community links in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Its modern languages specialism was highlighted as being ‘enterprising and engaging’ and inspectors were also impressed with the way this ran through every aspect of the curriculum.

The school was also praised for the outstanding care and support it gives to students and staff.

A total of four inspectors spent two full days at the school. Report inspector Patricia Metham said the school’s ambitious vision to be ‘a strong learning community with an international perspective which was well supported by modern technology and an extensive network of partnerships’ was shared and understood at all levels.

Headteacher Margaret Eva said everyone was pleased with the inspection, especially as the process had changed significantly, with additional criteria included.

Mrs Eva said she was proud of all the staff who worked incredibly hard to ensure every day pupils had a fulfilling learning experience.

“As the Ofsted Inspectors stated we are an exceptionally cohesive college community,” she said. “I am especially delighted that the team recognised our ‘formidable range of partnerships with other education providers and care agencies’.

“Our professional links with the local authority, Area A schools and Chichester College form a brilliant backdrop of support and encouragement for us all.”

The report said the governing body’s range of experience and expertise enabled it to hold the school ‘rigorously to account’ and that Mrs Eva displayed ‘strong and persuasive leadership’.

The report said that when starting at Bourne, pupils’ attainment was generally low, but not exceptionally so and that by the end of Key Stage 4, it was broadly average which reflected good overall progress. Progress made by pupils with special educational needs and disabilities was strong.
