THOSE who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives for their country will be remembered across the nation this weekend.

This year, both Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday fall on the same day, Sunday, November 11.

Chichester

In Chichester, the civic procession, led by mayor Anne Scicluna, will leave Council House, in North Street, at 10.40am, arriving at the Litten Gardens War Memorial for a service at 11am.

The mayor will take the salute in St Pancras after the service.

Platoons will march through East Street prior to the Litten Gardens service.

The following road closures will be in place from 10.30am to 11.05am: North Street will be closed from The Council House to The Cross, East Street and Eastgate Square will be closed and St Pancras will be closed from its junction with Eastgate Square to the southern entrance of Litten Gardens.

East Wittering

In East Wittering and Bracklesham, Royal British Legion members have agreed to pay their usual homage to the fallen at the East Wittering Dedication Stone, coinciding with the 11am Remembrance Service in Whitehall.

St Anne’s Sunday morning worship will therefore be shorter than usual to enable the congregation to join in this act of remembrance – weather permitting – and a small parade will proceed there through the village centre.

Should the weather be unsuitable, the act of remembrance will be transferred into St Anne’s church.

Between 10.15am and 11.30am, Cakeham Road will be closed to all traffic from the entrance to Shore Road to the junction with Stocks Lane.

Stagecoach buses will only travel along Northern Crescent between these times.

Selsey

In Selsey, a remembrance service will start at 10am at the Selsey Academy, all are welcome to attend.

From 10.55am to 11.30am, School Lane will be closed from the school eastwards to the junction with the High Street and the High Street will be closed from the Church Road junction to the School Lane junction.

Midhurst

In Midhurst, there will be a service of remembrance at Midhurst War Memorial starting at 10.45am.

Wreaths will be laid by Margaret Johnson, Deputy Lieutenant for the county of West Sussex, and by council representatives, churches and other organisations including the Army Cadet Force and girl guides.

The service will continue in the Parish Church, Midhurst.

Woolbeding

In Woolbeding, there will be a remembrance service in Woolbeding Church at 3pm on Sunday.

The Last Post and the Reveille will be played on the trumpet at the Midhurst and Woolbeding services by Alexander Watts, a pupil of Seaford College who lives in Midhurst.

Petworth

In Petworth, a service will be held at St Mary’s Church from 10.30am, with a pause at 11am when the congregation will hold a minute of silence at the war memorial.

A parade of ex-servicemen and women, supporters, and uniformed organisations will assemble at the Royal British Legion Club, in Grove Street, at 2.30pm.

The parade will process through the town, to a service at St Mary’s at 3pm. Wreaths will be laid at the war memorial.

After the service, the procession will walk back to the Royal British Legion Club.

Arundel

In Arundel, a service will be held at Arundel War Memorial from 10.45am.
