A NEW book featuring hundreds of paintings of the South Downs goes on sale at Chichester library this week.

It is part of plans by the city’s Natural History Society to mark the 18-month anniversary of the National Park’s formation.

The book, A Picture of the South Downs, was put together by husband and wife Terry and Christine Timblick.

They collected hundreds of old and new paintings of the area.

The couple will be speaking at the branch from 7:30pm tomorrow (Friday, November 9).

Cllr Peter Jones, who represents the library service for West Sussex County Council, said: “This book brings together some of the best paintings of the South Downs from the past 200 years.

“Terry and Christine Timblick have helped highlight one of the most historic landmarks in Britain thanks to their hard work.

“A number of artists showcased in the book will also be displaying their work at the event.”

Tickets, which cost £3 each, are available from the library, in Tower Street, Chichester, now.

Copies of the book will be on sale during the event at a reduced price of £25.
