A PUB has been given more time to work with Sussex Police and avoid closure it was announced today (Monday, November 5).
The fate of the Slug and Lettuce, in South Street, Chichester, was due to be decided at a meeting of Chichester District Council’s licensing committee tomorrow morning.
Today, however, the council informed the Observer that the hearing had been cancelled to allow ‘further discussions’ between Sussex Police and the pub’s management.
Sussex Police had previously applied for the pub’s license to be revoked to prevent crime and disorder, protect public safety and prevent public nuisance.
An 18-page document listed a string of incidents at the pub in South Street, including ‘serious assaults’, ‘serious violence’ and drug-related arrests.
In June, the pub had the highest number of recorded incidents for drunk and disorderly behaviour, public disorder and possession of Class A drugs in West Sussex.
