RESIDENTS, businesses and parish councils are being urged to attend one of six community meetings discussing future prices in rural car parks.
In April, 2011, Chichester District Council introduced parking charges in Selsey, Midhurst, Bracklesham, the Witterings, Petworth and Bosham.
Since then, the council has fond the money generated is not covering the cost of the car parks.
Kenrick Garraway, the council’s assistant director for economy, said: “When the council introduced charges in rural car parks, we said that we would not alter the charges for two years.
“We now need to work with local communities to look at how we should cover the cost of the car parks in the future.
“Each area will have different needs and requirements and so the options will be different to suit their individual requirements. We want to meet with local communities to see what their views are”
Based on current figures, the rural car park operations were resulting in a shortfall of more than £120,000 a year. The council now needs to find ways of covering this cost in the future.
Six meetings have been arranged, which will be held between 6pm and 8pm on: Monday, November 5, Bosham Centre, for Bosham car park; Tuesday, November 6, East Wittering Village Hall, for Bracklesham; Wednesday, November 7, Selsey Parish Hall complex, for Selsey; Thursday, November 8, United Reform Church Hall, for the Witterings; Tuesday, November 13, Capron House, for Midhurst; and Wednesday, November 14, Leconfield Hall, for Petworth.
