A man who was arrested following the rape of a teenage girl in Chichester has been stood down from police bail.
The 16-year-old girl reported being raped in a grassed area beside Kingsham Road, Chichester, before midnight on Sunday, June 24.
A police statement today (August 8) read: “Following a detailed investigation the 28-year-old man has been stood down from his police bail as it has been assessed that there is insufficient evidence to justify a report being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.
“Any reports of sexual assault are always taken very seriously and we encourage their reporting, but decisions must be taken on the individual facts of each case.”
A statement from Sussex police in June, following the incident, read: “Police swiftly searched the area and went to an address in the same road just after midnight, where they arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of rape.”
He was interviewed before being released on bail until today.
